Is there a trick to putting on Clear Coat?

It is important to use a damp paint brush, and apply a very thin coat. Do not work your brush back and forth, just one stroke. After about an hour it should be dry and then you can apply a second coat to make it even.

Do you put on Clear Coat first or Glaze first?

There is no right or wrong way so do this. It depends on the look you want to achieve. Dixie Belle Paint is porous by nature, so if you want an uneven look for example in cavities or detailed areas, then glaze first. If you want an even smooth look, ie. Flat surfaces, then clear coat first and then glaze.

My Clear Coat is “yellowing”, what happened?

It is not the clear coat, sometimes the furniture you are working on has a number of things that might be happening. It could have a heavy stain, varnish or it could have been in a house that had heavy smokers etc. When you apply the clear coat over you painted piece, it actually pulls up the stain or tobacco stains. No worries, now that you have clear coated the piece it will seal it and then repaint.

Does Dixie Belle Paint have to be sealed?

No, once Dixie Belle Paint has cured, after 30 days, it is durable just the way it is. You can paint and be done with it if you like the look.

Should I use Easy Peasy Spray Wax before or after Clear Coat?

Both of these products are water-based and are interchangeable. You can use one or both but it is not necessary to use both.

How do you use Easy Peasy Spray Wax?

Shake the bottle, use a light mist on the furniture; take a lint free cloth and wipe. Repeat at least 2 more times. As with any wax, this should be repeated every 6 to 9 months. Would like to watch a video on how-to apply? Click here.

Can you paint leather? Fabric?

Yes, Dixie Belle Paint is perfect for both fabrics. Just lightly mist your furniture with water. (Do not over-saturate), and then paint like normal. You might have to do a second coat. When dry sand with 220 grit sanding sponge and your fabric will feel like leather. If you would like to watch a video on "how-to" paint fabric, Click here.

My paint is chipping off….Why?

Chalk paint adheres to many surface….some surfaces maybe a little trickier than others. Laminate or shiny slick surfaces should be cleaned first with a solution of our amazing cleaner called White Lightening. Follow the directions and make sure to wear gloves. You can find White Lightning  here. Then once you paint any surface you need to have the paint “cure” first which takes about 30 days.

How do I do a layered look?

Paint a base color and after it dries paint a second color. Use a 150 sanding sponge like R.A.D. pad by Surfprep and start sanding away to let the base color show through. You can also wet distress. Just dampen your  sanding sponge and wipe away lightly until first coat is revealed. This works well if you have painted the first coat and waited a few days and then applied the second coat. You will need to wet distress within hours after application because once cured paint is difficult to remove.

Can I paint my kids furniture with Dixie Belle Paint?

Dixie Belle Paint is non-toxic with no VOC’s.

How do you paint with Dixie Belle Paint?

Dixie Belle Paint is very thick so a little goes a long way.  The longer the lid stays off the thicker it will get. If you like a thinner look just add a little water and stir. Clean the item you want to paint with Dixie Belle White Lightening, take a damp brush, (you can use a chip brush, special brushes designed for chalk painting or whatever brush you like to work with ) and paint a very thin coat. It will dry very quickly. Some items will need a second coat so after about 30 minutes add another coat.

Our Shipping & Delivery Policies


Furniture Shipping & Delivery 

Shipping is an extra fee that is not included with the price of the item unless otherwise stated.

We ship our furniture  White Glove, or Blanket Wrapped Delivery. We work

with a short list of  trusted Carriers that take special care in the wrapping and delivery of our furniture. Shipping White Glove or Blanket Wrapped may take up to 2-4 weeks for delivery, depending on your location. If you live in a building that requires special permissions,  insurance certificates for deliveries, or limited delivery times, please contact us prior to purchase to see if our Carriers can accommodate you. Once the Carrier has picked up your item they are responsible in the unlikely event of damage, until it is delivered to your home. We remain in close contact during the process to make sure everything goes smoothly. We do require a designated receiver 18 or over to accept delivery, and sign the delivery form.


For shipping products other than furniture: 

Shipping is an extra fee that is not included with the price of the item unless otherwise stated.

Items usually ship within 7-10 business days upon receipt of funds. Items are insured up to $50 with extra optional insurance coverage if needed. We require a signature for receipt of the package, and tracking number will be provided to you once packages have shipped. We take great care in packaging and shipping our items, with photos and/or videos of the process, Once the package is delivered, the buyer needs to inspect the contents carefully. In the unlikely event damage has occured, please take photos and contact us immediately. We will help you to determine if you need to file a claim with your carrier. (USPS)

We receive regular email tracking updates from USPS, and are notified of each package delivery. If you do not receive your product after USPS has marked the status as “Delivered” ; you must notify us personally via email at conniem@winstonhomedesigns.com within 24 hours. We also have a contact form on this website that will send an email directly to us. When we  receive email confirmation from USPS  and hear nothing from you, we will assume everything is satisfactory.


Colors:

We use digitized photography for our photos. Although we do our best to show the true finished color of the piece, colors may vary depending on the device you are viewing them with. We will be happy to send you any extra pictures, or video of the products you are interested in .


Character Marks:

A lot of time we deal with vintage pieces, that we are able to restore and bring new beauty to. Because of their age, many will have slight imperfections that are not able to be completely

removed, and in some cases, we don’t want them removed! We will always stand behind the 

quality of our work, but we can not  guarantee wear and tear, once they are in your home. We do include care tags, and instructions for the proper upkeep of your refinished pieces, to ensure

their lasting beauty. We have also included a short article on how to care for your furniture in our

Blog posts section.


Cancellations:

We do not accept cancellations, but please contact us if you have any problems with your

order.


Returns or Refunds:

Because of the nature of our business, we do not accept returns, or give refunds on these items unless they are damaged or defective. We require written notice via email to conniem@winstonhomedesigns.com and a digital photo within 24 hours, of any damage that has occurred during any shipment or delivery.

Paint products

Buyer is responsible for any return shipping cost. You must let us know within 24 hours of delivery if there are any problems. Products must be shipped back within 7 days of delivery. (Furniture may take a longer timeframe) If a buyer returns any product in such a way that is causes more damage in shipping, the buyer is responsible for any loss in value.
